The Lesser of Two Evils

The following story, perhaps aprochyphal, is attributed to a great rabbinic scholar:

When he was five years old, on his way to school, he spotted a shiny gold watch in the window of a jeweler .He managed to take it out of the showcase without being caught.

He brought it home and proudly showed it to his parents.

Dumbfounded and shocked, his parents said to him: "Moshele, don't you know that the Ten Commandments say: Thou shalt not steal?!"

He answered: "I'd rather violate Thou shalt not steal once than violate Thou shalt not covet every time I go to school."
